In Detail : ACME Solar has entered into significant agreements with NHPC to deploy large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Andhra Pradesh, marking a pivotal move in India’s energy transition. The projects, with a combined capacity of 275 MW/550 MWh, are set to enhance grid stability and support renewable energy integration in the region.
The agreements cover two standalone BESS projects. The first project involves a 50 MW/100 MWh system awarded at a fixed tariff of ₹2.10 lakh per MW per month. The second, larger project comprises 225 MW/450 MWh capacity at a slightly higher tariff of ₹2.22 lakh per MW per month.
Both projects have been awarded under NHPC’s competitive tendering process, which aims to promote energy storage as a critical component of India’s power infrastructure. These projects will be eligible for viability gap funding (VGF) under government policy support, making them financially viable for large-scale implementation.
The scheduled commissioning timeline for both systems is 18 months from the date of signing the agreements. This timeline reflects the urgency and strategic importance of grid-scale energy storage in managing India’s increasing renewable energy share.
