Neckarsulm – blueplanet gridsave 50.0 TL3-S is the new battery inverter from KACO new energy. The device serves as a motor for charging and discharging batteries in energy storage systems. The Germany-based manufacturer attached great importance to versatility in the development process: With the battery inverter, system integrators have great freedom in the choice of battery technology, the connection to the higher-level energy management system and the size of the battery storage.

With the blueplanet gridsave 50.0 TL3-S, KACO new energy has developed a bidirectional battery inverter with an output power of 50 kilowatts and an efficiency of 98.5 percent. The scope of application for the new battery inverter is commercial and large-scale energy storage systems. It is compatible with both lithium-ion batteries and other commercially available battery types. The blueplanet gridsave 50.0 TL3-S can be operated in parallel on the DC side to connect several inverters to a single high-capacity battery. The advantages are high system availability and efficiency of the battery storage.

Storing energy and stabilizing the grid
The blueplanet gridsave 50.0 TL3-S is located between battery storage and grid. The installation can be carried out in outdoor areas thanks to protection class IP65. The battery inverter can be connected in parallel on the AC side, as well – in unlimited numbers. The grid can therefore be the public grid as well as the power supply of a small town or an industrial facility: The size of a decentralized battery storage with the blueplanet gridsave 50.0 TL3-S can be scaled up to the megawatt range.

By releasing stored energy in times of high energy demand, the battery inverter regulates energy peaks. By charging and discharging the batteries, it also helps with grid management, either to compensate for reactive power or to provide additional active power.

Open communication standard
The blueplanet gridsave 50.0 TL3-S is controlled by an external energy management system. The battery inverter communicates via Sunspec Modbus TCP for use with various energy management systems. This widely used interface allows the use of a large number of control systems. As part of such an open system, the blueplanet gridsave 50.0 TL3-S meets individual requirements for the design of the battery storage.

With the blueplanet gridsave 50.0 TL3-S, KACO new energy targets system integrators. Their solutions help public utilities, distribution system operators, EPCs and large businesses in balancing generation and load of power networks.

Dates
KACO new energy will exhibit its new battery inverter at the Energy Storage Europe in Düsseldorf from March 13-15, 2018: booth 8BB03.
Webinar dates with pv magazine: March 6, 2018 (German); April 4, 2018 (English).

About KACO new energy:
KACO new energy, headquartered in Neckarsulm, Germany is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of inverters for grid-feed solar power. The product line-up covers the full power range, from single units designed for a family home up to complete systems for solar parks producing megawatts of electricity. Since 1999, KACO new energy has supplied inverters with a cumulative power output of 12 gigawatts. This offering has been extended to include solutions for PV self-consumption and energy storage, devices for grid management, as well as products and value-added services for utility-scale projects. KACO new energy is the first company in the photovoltaic industry to achieve CO2-neutral production and in 2014, celebrated the 100th birthday of the original parent company which, at the end of the 1930s, was one of first ever inverter manufacturers.
