On the 20th foundation day of College of Engineering, Roorkee, a technical exhibition by students made under ‘Do It Yourself ’(DIY) initiative was held on Monday wherein 35 projects including those based on smart city, solar tree and solar cycle were showcased. The two day celebrations marked by cultural programmes including National Kavi Sammelan by Rahat Indori and Hari Om Panwar were appreciated by the students and locals.

Notably, a separate university has been planned on a new campus which the State Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat had announced during his last visit to the college. The university is expected to be in shape by next year end, said the functionaries.

Presiding over the function, chairman of COER, JC Jain said that various projects in robotics, home automation and solar energy have been initiated by the students. It should be mentioned here that that alumni of college Pankaj Kureel was awarded under Startup India by the Government recently.

Another ex-student Virtul Mittal was awarded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Self4society meet. He guided the students to use technology which also helps reach the person in remote corner of the country like making a mobile application which could help a farmer sell his product to the consumer in a metro city. He asked them to be entrepreneurs rather than employment seekers.

The Director General of COER, Major General (retd) O P Soni said that more than two decades had passed since the college was started. Last year’s achievement of the college was getting accreditation by NABL for testing laboratory of plastic polymers.

A soil testing lab which would enable the local farmers to test their soil samples and improve their crop produce depending on the quality of soil.

Under the aegis of COER Center of Excellence, the college has purchased the best quality international level technical equipment to make the students of civil engineering aware of the learning and earning concept.

On the occasion, sixth issue of International Journal of Engineering Research of the college, ‘Tejas’ and journal based on developments in IT and management, ‘Anwesh’ were released by the dignitaries.
