Farmers demand public hearing on HT power lines

The Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam has demanded public hearing on high tension (HT) power lines passing through agricultural lands across the State.

In a meeting held in Indur here, the farmers’ association alleged that the HT power lines were set up to pass through agricultural lands without acquiring consent or granting compensation to farmers. Until the public hearing was held, the government should stop works on erecting HT power lines.

Further, renewable energy power generation by corporates had also affected farmlands in Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Theni, Krishnagiri, Dindigal, Karur, Tirupur, Coimbatore, Salem and Namakkal, the association alleged.
