HYDERABAD: Hyderabad is the first metro to do so

L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited has announced its move to provide electric vehicle charging facility at metro stations in partnership with Power Grid Corporation of India Limited.

By providing for such facility, the Hyderabad metro becomes the first metro to provide Electric Vehicle Charging Stations.

With Vehicle to Grid (V2G) concept, EVs can also help in stabilisation of grid.

In its endeavour to reduce the Carbon footprint, LTMRHL has signed a Contract with PowerGrid to promote Electric Vehicle Charging Stations for the first and last mile connectivity at Metro Stations.

Green Metro

KVB Reddy, MD & CEO, LTMRHL said, “We are committed to provide best in class eco-friendly green Metro services to the citizens of Hyderabad and this is a step in that direction. The running cost is also considerably low compared to the vehicles run on fossil fuels. As India is aiming at high renewable energy penetration, channelising this energy to EV, the net CO2 generation can be brought down to almost zero.”

To start with, PowerGrid shall develop charging stations at Miyapur and Dr. B R Ambedkar Balanagar Metro Stations. PowerGrid shall subsequently develop EV charging stations across the entire Metro Corridors. To cater to the needs of currently available vehicle types, it plans to deploy Bharat Charger DC-001.

As market evolves it expects to deploy compatible chargers meeting international standards for all type of Electric Vehicles.

It is also developing an App which shall help the consumer to locate and share the status of availability of the charging station and facilitate online payment towards EV Charging for seamless operation with least waiting time. These EV charging stations shall be monitored and operated remotely by Power Grid.
