Welcoming the decision, Sanjay Shete, chairman of Kolhapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries said, “We welcome the decision of government as it will give some respite to financially reeling industries from payment of power bills and power cuts over the delay in payment of bills”

Kolhapur: The industrialists in Kolhapur have welcomed the state government’s decision on relaxation in payment of power bills. As per the government’s decision, industries can now pay the existing power bills in June.

Welcoming the decision, Sanjay Shete, chairman of Kolhapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) said, “We welcome the decision of government as it will give some respite to financially reeling industries from payment of power bills and power cuts over the delay in payment of bills.”

“We had, however, expected the government to take some drastic decisions regarding waiving off the fixed power charges for three months. When we enquired with government officials about the decision regarding our demands, we were told that the government had postponed the issue and will takeit up for discussion sometime later. The industries from Kolhapur, including the Foundry industries, were desperate over the demand and have decided not to start operations till government makes a decision regarding the cancellation of fixed power tariff,” he said.

An industrialist from Kagal MIDC welcomed the move. He said that the industrialists are quite satisfied with the government’s decision as most of them face fund shortage during lockdown. “It will take more than one month to complete the cycle of production and sell the material in the market and generate funds. By this time we need financial assistance to continue production and some relaxation in the form of delay in paying power bills will help us to function efficiently,” he said.
