People concerned about the future generation, use and promotion of renewable energy will have exposure to the newly announced policy of the state in this regard on Thursday.
The Bihar policy on renewable energy envisages state’s self-sufficiency in power by adding 3,343MW of renewable energy in the grid by 2020. It has also set dedicated target of having 1,000MW of rooftop solar energy provided with net metering and gross metering mechanisms.
Incidentally, the per capita consumption of power has increased in Bihar in the last ten years, but the state is dependent mainly on traditional sources of power, like coal, oil and natural gas.
In this regard, a one-day national conference on ‘Renewable energy and re-powering Bihar’ in the backdrop of its new policy called ‘Bihar policy for promotion of new and renewable energy sources, 2017’ has been organized by the Centre for Environment and Energy Development (CEED) at a premier city hotel on Thursday.
Those participating in the deliberation include state finance minister Abdul Bari Siddiqui, representatives of government bodies, investors, renewable energy developers, industries and entrepreneurs. Energy department principal secretary, Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (BREDA) director and member secretary of Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI) would also give their insights at the meet.
