India’s largest hydropower generation company is envisaging the addition of 150 MW Solar Projects in association with SECI in next two years.

The project is part of the MOU signed with SECI on November 30, 2015, for development of 250 MW grid-connected solar power project in India in a time frame of five years from the date of signing.

However, at present 50 MW of solar plant is under construction located in Theni, Dindigul District, in the western region of Tamil Nadu state.

NHPC has made a commitment to the MNRE, for setting up a minimum of the 430 MW capacity of renewable energy projects during the five-year period of 2015-2019 as part of Green Energy Commitment made during RE-INVEST in 2015.

The company will generate 690.4 million kWh of clean energy and will prevent 477,376 tons of CO2 emissions per year.

Joshi also informed the committee that NHPC had commissioned 22 power projects of 6691.2 MW (including Joint Ventures), and it is presently engaged in 25 projects amounting to 14 GW, which are under various stages of development in Hydro, Solar, and Thermal.
