The power of the sun in the Australian Outback will provide electricity to more than a million people almost 2,500 miles away in Singapore under plans to build the world’s largest solar farm.

Covering 50 square miles, equivalent to a third of the Isle of Wight, the farm will be built on a Northern Territory cattle ranch once owned by Kerry Packer, the late Australian media mogul.

It should supply up to 20 per cent of Singapore’s electricity needs and includes a huge storage battery, which will help regulate the power produced by more than 22 million solar panels.
