Moving towards a more advanced cell processes and higher solar cell efficiencies, the effect of material properties will be increasingly important. There has been a strong development in the multi crystalline solar industry over the last years, making better material with less material defects. The material quality is mainly dictated by the furnace process, converting silicon raw material to an ingot. The process is run in a large chamber furnace in a directional solidification process.
To be able to continue the good trend we are looking for a person which can continue developing the material quality through optimization of the furnace process.The candidate must combine material science with how the furnace is operating, and developing new and better recipes and hardware specs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participation in and management of technology development projects within the area of crystallization related processes.
Take lead on developing new and better furnace recipes
Developing good models to understand the furnace processand their relation to material quality(heat balance, distribution of contaminants, emissivity, etc)
Responsible for developing the equipment design for the furnace
Participate in cross functional technology projects targeting to improve solar cell efficiency
Contact point towards external collaboration partners and suppliers on new developments within the technology area
Interaction with Wafer Operations in implementation and transfer of know-how
Continuing developing and documenting the fundamental know-how in the technology area

PhD or MSc in Thermodynamics / Metallurgy/ Material Science / Chemistry/Physics
Min. 5 years relevant experience from Research / Industrial background
Experience in running directional solidification processes
Good understanding of heating/temperature control and vacuum systems
Good understanding of solid-state physics/chemistry
Good knowledge of Silicon, and characterization of electrical / chemical / mechanical properties
Experience in equipment design and drafting technical specifications
Self-driven and with the ability to act pro-actively
Positive attitude and teamwork abilities
Structured and analytical
Excellent team worker
Good communication skills in English, both orally and in writing
Enjoy working in an international team
