Chandigarh: Haryana Power and New and Renewable Energy Minister Ranjit Singh on Saturday said that several schemes are being run by the government to promote solar energy in the state.

The Minister said that as subsidy is being given on solar energy equipment, therefore people are now shifting towards buying these equipments.

He said that this step is proving to be extremely beneficial in urban and rural areas as well as in small dhanis, as using solar energy not only saves electricity bills but is environment friendly also.

In a statement here, Mr Singh said that under the ‘Manohar Jyoti Yojana’, every family is provided with a 150 Watt solar system, along with a lithium battery. This solar system can run a fan and three LED lights. The system also has a mobile charging port.

Under the scheme, the cost of all the goods including 150 watt solar panel comes only to Rs 22,500 and on this, a subsidy of Rs 15,000 is being given by the state government. Beneficiaries can avail this scheme by depositing an amount of Rs 7500.

He asserted that while applying for Manohar Jyoti Yojana’, applicant will need to submit documents such as Aadhaar card, bank account linked to Aadhaar number, domicile citing that he is a resident of Haryana.

He noted that irrigation through solar pumps in the fields is also proving to be very successful and beneficial. The government is also giving considerable subsidy to the farmers on solar pumps. By using these pumps, farmers can avoid huge expenditure being spent on diesel.
