In Short – SJVN Ltd will supply 800 MW of renewable energy to Haryana, marking a significant step in the state’s green energy initiatives. This agreement aims to enhance Haryana’s renewable energy capacity, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and contribute to India’s sustainable development goals. The move underscores SJVN’s commitment to expanding clean energy infrastructure nationwide.

In Details – The Haryana Power Purchase Centre (HPPC) has been granted approval for procuring 800 MW of renewable energy from Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) Limited for which a plea seeking petition was filed. This renewable energy will come from Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS)-connected projects equipped with energy storage systems. The proposed rate for this energy is Rs 4.45 per kilowatt-hour, including a trading margin, over 25 years.

The bidding process initiated by SJVN, a total of 1,500 MW of renewable energy offering gives the option to increase this capacity by another 1,500 MW. The energy provided by SJVN is expected to have a minimum Capacity Utilization Factor (CUF) of 70%, which is comparable to the Plant Load Factor (PLF) of thermal power plants. Moreover, SJVN is obligated to ensure at least 90% availability of this energy during peak hours, defined as two hours each in the morning and evening.

The Commission conducted a hearing on June 6, 2024, where both parties reiterated their written submissions.

The Commission noted that the Power Supply Agreement (PSA) between HPPC and SJVN was already signed on April 5, 2024. This agreement is valid for 25 years, with a potential extension of up to 35 years, subject to the Commission’s approval.
