Munger: The Union ministry of new & renewable energy and power has generated hope for three solar power parks in Munger, Jamui and Banka in the next phase of the central solar park scheme.

“The ministry of new & renewable energy has requested the state government to submit a proposal after identifying suitable land and solar power park developers to set up the solar power parks in the three districts,” RJD Banka MP Jai Prakash Narayan Yadav quoted Piyush Goyal, the minister of state with independent charge, as saying.

MP Yadav said he had written a letter to Goyal, urging him to set up solar power parks at Haveli Kharagpur in Munger district, Katoria in Banka district and Barhat in Jamui district, so that the areas can be developed properly. “These areas are now Maoist-affected zones in Bihar and need immediate development,” Yadav wrote in the letter sent three months ago.

Yadav showed the letter that Goyal sent, a copy of which is with The Telegraph, to mediapersons in Munger on Wednesday.

“It is good news for the people of Bihar that the Union ministry has in writing felt the need to set up solar power parks in Bihar. Now, it is the duty of the Bihar government to identify suitable land and solar power park developers and also send the proposal as soon as possible,” Yadav said.

The ministry’s letter also says: “The proposal can be considered by the ministry during the next phase of solar power park scheme as the total approved capacity of 20,000MW for existing scheme has already been exhausted.”
