Are we ready to tackle Climate Change? #2020GreenGoal Campaign by Hero Future Energies is ensuring that India has all hands on deck in its sustainable journey

Amongst all the challenges facing the world, the threat of global warming perhaps carries the most weight. The topic of climate change never seems to get old and for good reasons too. In 2020, this conversation only needs to get louder.

One new year campaign that’s helping do just that is the #2020GreenGoal campaign started by Hero Future Energies, the renewable energy arm of the Hero Group. Taking the conversation outside the corporate sector and to the rest of the online world, Hero Future Energies is ensuring India has all hands on deck in its sustainable journey.

In 2015, many countries came together to sign the Paris Climate Accord, wherein they made voluntary commitments to improve the environment by 2030. Under the Accord, India committed to reduce its emissions intensity of GDP 33% to 35% below 2005 levels and increase the share of non-fossil power generation to 40%.

With 2020 marking the start of the final decade to meet these commitments, the company felt that it’s time to speak directly to the masses and bring them in this journey. To encourage this mass-participation, #2020GreenGoal was born with the simple idea to find out ways in which people can adopt a sustainable lifestyle as a part of their daily routine this year.

Its effect had multiple aspects, from encouraging climate consciousness among the masses to providing viewers with numerous options for a sustainable lifestyle. The campaign encourages people to share their #2020GreenGoal on their social media accounts in an attempt to inspire those in their friend lists thereby creating a repository of sustainable steps anyone can take.

By putting forward the concept of New Year resolution with a ‘green goal’ spin, Hero Future Energies adds environment-centric efforts to our lifestyle. And given how simple some steps are, keeping these resolutions won’t necessarily be an issue as well.

This also isn’t the first time the company has taken such a digital step towards climate consciousness either. The company’s social media campaigns reflect its dedication to sensitize the masses about sustainability, renewable energy, and more. Be it with #REtelling – a campaign that showcased how the company’s large-scale solar and wind energy plants blend into the daily lives of masses – or educating people about the impact of rooftop solar from the case studies conducted at its client sites, the company has taken several steps towards creating awareness.

The standout among all is its #Power2Think campaign – an on-going series promoting conversations with industry leaders and experts around the ways to build a sustainable future. Starting as tweet-chats in 2017, the campaign evolved into monthly LIVE chat-sessions in 2018 and expanded further to include podcasts under its umbrella as well. The podcasts are currently available across streaming platforms including Spotify and Apple Podcast. The company has plans to expand this into an independent online property coming out with insightful monthly content around climate-related topics.

Several distinguished speakers have been guests on #Power2Think sessions till date, including Dr. Arunabha Ghosh, Founder-CEO, CEEW; Dr. Mangu Singh, MD, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, Mr. Chintan Shah, Director (Technical), IREDA, and Dr. T.S Panwar, Director, Climate Change and Energy Programme, WWF-India. Some of the topics that have been covered include electric mobility, innovations in renewable energy, and women in renewable.

It will be interesting to see how the company takes its commitment to building a sustainable future forward in 2020. Until we wait for that, we could all show the company that its newest campaign indeed has our support. All we need to do is tweet out our #2020GreenGoal – and ensure that we stick to it.
