Whether you’re in Bedford, Luton or Biggleswade, there are places to charge your electric vehicle across the county

It’s no secret that electric vehicles can play a major role in tackling the climate crisis. Powered by a battery rather than internal combustion, electric vehicles are a much cleaner way to travel, but someone looking at investing in one may be concerned about a lack of charging points in their area.

From 2030, no new petrol or diesel cars will be made in the UK. The idea of this is to encourage the purchase of electric vehicles and therefore boost the chances of the UK reaching net zero emissions by 2050.

While the infrastructure to support hundreds of thousands of electric vehicles on our roads might not quite be ready yet, it’s certainly on the way. These days it’s commonplace to see charging points in supermarket car parks, town centres and outside new-build homes, meaning anyone in need of a charge can do so without hassle.

It may surprise you to learn that Bedfordshire is actually full of charging points for electric vehicles. Clusters of chargers can be found in the county’s biggest towns of Bedford, Luton and Leighton Buzzard, while they can also be found dotted along key roads.

If you’ve got an electric car and constantly worrying about your battery life, there’s a very useful tool called Zap Map which has pinpointed every charging point across the UK. Have a browse of the map by pressing here.

Besides showing where a charging point is, the map will also show you if it’s currently available and if there are any restrictions. It also informs drivers of what type of battery the charging point supports.
