APGenco sets 5-year action plan to reduce T&D losses

The government of Andhra Pradesh has targeted to further reduce Transmission & Distribution losses and bring it to less than 3 per cent.

VIJAYAWADA: Around Rs 1,900 crore were invested in the construction of various transmission lines and accordingly the transmission losses of APTransco were reduced from 4 per cent to 3.34 per cent, which is a national record, said APTransco CMD, Mr K. Vijayanand. The government of Andhra Pradesh has targeted to further reduce Transmission & Distribution (T&D) losses and bring it to less than 3 per cent.

Transmission System Availability has been increased to 99.95 per cent which is one of the highest amongst state utilities of comparable network in the country, he added.

Mr Vijayanand further added that power supply at affordable tariff is a strong foundation for industrial development which helps to generate employment and promotes overall socio-economic development.

While talking to the staff of power utilities department on Friday, Mr Vijayanand said that he was happy to honour Energy Department advisor Mr K. Ranganatham, with Lifetime Achievement Award, as a befitting recognition of his dedicated, valuable services and commendable performance for over 50 years in the power sector.

The chairman also said that the installed capacity in the state has been doubled during the last three and half years from 8,307 MW to 16,612 MW.

APGenco has geared up for a five-year time bound action plan for the completion of various projects namely, Rayalaseema Thermal Power Project (RTPP)-Stage IV – 600MW, Solar plant at Tallacheruvu, Ananta-pur-400MW, Dr NTTPS ( VTPS), Krishna district-Stage V – 800MW, Krishnapatnam-Stage II – 800MW and the most prestigious hydro project of Polavaram Hydro-Electric Project (PFEP) – 960MW.

Four ultra-mega solar parks are being set up at Kurnool, Anantapur and Kadapa with a capacity of 4,000 MW with assistance from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, government of India. A capacity of 1,250 MW has already been commissioned. The world’s largest Solar Park with 1,000 MW capacity in one place, had been commissioned in Kurnool and was completed in the record time of 24 months.

Special focus is being laid for the development of smart local grids with solar-wind hybrid and storage. Solar and wind power prices have reached an all time low of Rs 2.44 per unit and Rs 2.43 per unit respectively and it is high time that green power is promoted in a humongous way.

Battery storage of power has also recorded a low price of `5.13 per unit in the pilot project, he added.
