Martin Eberhard, founder and original chairman & CEO, Tesla asserted that there can not be a one car for all market solution in electric cars.

The Indian government needs to do more to expedite the process of movement to electric cars from gasoline cars, feels the founder of Tesla.

“We should try to move away from gasoline cars as fast as possible. But the Indian government needs to do more (to facilitate transition towards electric cars),” Martin Eberhard, founder and original chairman & CEO, Tesla.

Eberhard now is the founder of Tiveni, which is working on building electric power trains.

The Indian government provides subsidy to the consumers buying electric cars but the country does not have adequate ecosystem to support widespread use of electric vehicles.

Eberhard added that there can not be a one car for all market solution in electric cars.

“For India, I feel, smaller three seater electric car is the future,” he added.

He added that electric cars have achieved a lot globally but there is a long way to go. He further said that Tesla has already proved that the future of cars will be electric.

“Now, we can debate about when it happens. However, in a city like Delhi, whether replacing gasoline cars with electric cars can be the solution. Even if you replace all gasoline cars with electric, traffic snarls will still be there,” Eberhard added.
