The next decade of the Indian electricity sector would witness a major transformation with respect to demand growth, energy mix and market operations

As per the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) estimates, by 2029-30 the share of renewable energy generation would increase from 18 per cent to 44 per cent while that of thermal is expected to reduce from 78 per cent to 52 per cent. The projected installed capacity in year 2029-30 is around 832 GW and would comprise of 291 GW from thermal, 17 GW from Nuclear, 523 GW from Renewable energy (including 73 GW from Hydro). This shift would to be driven by the falling cost of solar panels and battery storage systems. Here is a snapshot:
