The Saietta Group has showcased a new range of in-wheel motor technology. The new electric motor technology is aimed at the intra-city requirements and also at other smart mobility platforms.

The UK based Saietta Group’s AFT 140 electric motor technology had already demonstrated the potential of its in-wheel motor technology. As the company claims about the efficiency of its in-wheel motor technology, it can be a great solution for various urban applications.

One of the biggest advantages of electric platforms is their lack of moving parts and thereby, its compact packaging. By shifting the electric motor completely into the wheels, the Saietta group has made the platform almost flat and without much intrusions.

Saietta’s in-wheel motors are designed in such a way that they can be placed in the vacant space in the wheels. This highly space-efficient design allows for maximum space utilisation and the flat floor of the platform allows it to underpin any type of body.

The design has also allowed the engineers to further reduce the number of moving parts like the drive shafts and their related components. Saietta Group’s in-wheel motor should not be confused with the existing hub motors, as both are vastly different from each other.

The former actually places the motor inside the radius of the wheel for propulsion and it is not integrated into the wheel itself like a hub motor. Saietta Group also claims superior maneuverability, flexibility, modularity and all-wheel drive capability along with regenerative braking capacity.

However, we don’t think that these motors will become a replacement for high-performance usage, as they are meant for power-efficient and local transport applications rather than face-ripping 0-60mph accelerations.

Thoughts On Saietta In-Wheel Motors Being Unveiled From the concept, it is clear that Saietta Group aims to produce these motors for urban applications with high practicality in mind rather than to chase absurd performance numbers.

The motor is even capable of running at a lower voltage for safer operation under various conditions, making it an ideal platform for ‘work horse’ platforms.
