Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday will visit his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi to launch solar-powered boats and address a gathering in Ballia where he is set to launch Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). Modi will land at Varanasi airport on Sunday morning, from where he will leave for Ballia by chopper. In Ballia, he will launch PMUY, under which free LPG connections will be provided to 50 million households living below poverty line. He will hand over papers of the new LPG connection symbolically to 10 women at the event.

“In Eastern UP, majority of BPL category people are Dalits and those belonging to backward castes. Hence, launching of PMUY holds a political significance for BJP ahead of UP polls next year,” said a BJP leader. The PM will return to Varanasi the same evening, and address a gathering of nearly 10,000 boatmen at Assi Ghat and distribute 11 solar-powered “e-boats”. These boatmen mostly belong to the ‘Mallah’ community, which comes under most backward castes (MBCs). Before launching the e-boats, Modi will meet 100 prominent people from the district to discuss about the development of Varanasi. Later, he will distribute 1,000 e-rickshaws and also hold a chaupal with rickshawpullers. The PM will then visit ‘Gyan Prawah’, a religious place near Ganga. He will leave for Delhi late evening.
