Solarcentury’s latest building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) product, Sunstation, has won a coveted iF DESIGN AWARD 2016. Sunstation has been recognised in the Product discipline, and the 1.15 Building Technology category. It is an elegant and affordable in-roof PV system, launched in 2015 and available to residential customers in the UK and the Netherlands.
Sunstation faced stiff competition – the international high profile jury assessed more than 5,000 entries from 53 countries in order to determine the winners. Sunstation is the only solar product in the iF DESIGN AWARD 2016 that received this seal of design excellence. The award sits Sunstation alongside previous winners including high profile brands such as Apple, Sony, LG and Bosch.
Jon Sturgeon, Head of Product Development at Solarcentury commented, “Earning international recognition for Sunstation is testament to the talented innovation team at Solarcentury, as well as our manufacturing partner – JA Solar. We listened closely to customer feedback and in response, designed a great-looking product that responds to the demands of both homeowners and installers. It’s easy to specify, easy to install and is reliable and cost-effective as well as aesthetically pleasing.”
The Sunstation team will be presented with the award at the iF design award night on 26 February at BMW Welt in Munich. For over 60 years, the iF DESIGN AWARD has been recognised the world over as a label of design excellence.Frans van den Heuvel, CEO at Solarcentury commented, “Residential solar is now coming of age, especially in more mature solar markets where homeowners are increasingly discerning and demand affordable but stylish solar products that preserve the look of their roof. Sunstation makes solar more accessible than ever – and making solar accessible has always been part of our mission – and this award win is sure to further stimulate interest in Sunstation, which is ready for mass market adoption. We’re very excited to be helping homeowners to generate their own energy using an award-winning solar system.”
