New Delhi: Morris Garages (MG) Motors India has on Thursday unveiled its upcoming electronic car MG ZS EV for the Indian markets. As the name suggests, ZS EV is the electric version of its previous MG ZS SUV. The MG ZS EV will now compete with Hyundai Kona in its segment in the Indian market. The new electric vehicle of the MG is expected to be launched in India in January 2020, with a price tag of more than 20 lakhs (ex-showroom).

“This is going to be our second product after Hector. We firmly believe the future of automobiles is connected and electric,” MG Motor India President & Managing Director Rajeev Chaba said at the launch event as quoted by news agency PTI.

The company plans to start selling the ZS electric in 5 cities, for now, namely Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Ahmedabad.

The new MG ZS EV comes with 143 PS and 353 Nm of peak torque power that will be enough for an acceleration of 0 to 100 in 8.5 seconds. The car is also designed with ‘Skyroof’ that covers 90 per cent area of the roof. It is also equipped with features like the iSmart internet system and a PM2.5 air filter. It gets Eco, Normal and Sport driving modes and three regenerative braking modes.

The company also claims that the operational cost of the MG ZS EV will be less than 10 per cent in comparison with a normal petrol engine car in its segment. The car comes with a 44.5 kWh water-cooled, lithium-ion battery, which can be charged through five modes — standard onboard cable that plugs into 15Amp sockets, home/office charge, DC super-fast charging, AC fast charging and charge on the go (for emergencies). The 50KW DC fast charger can charge up the battery up to 80 per cent in less than an hour, while the 7.4 KW charger will take 6-8 hours to fully charge the battery.

The company also claims a range of 340 km for the electric car in the real world scenario on a single charge.

The exterior of the car looks dazzling as it comes with a star-rider grille with an integrated charging point. The bi-functional projector headlights also have LED DRLs. To give the car a sporty look, the company has put features like silver roof rails and a 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

In the interior, the car is equipped with electrically adjustable driver seat, multi-function leather steering wheel, adaptive cruise control and a touchscreen infotainment system that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
