NASHIK: The MSEDCL conducted a day’s workshop on rooftop solar energy system appealing to consumers to opt for the system that resulted in minimizing the energy bill despite no drop in consumption of power.

Addressing the consumer meet organized by the MSEDCL, chief engineer Nashik Zone, Deepak Kumthekar said, “Under the rooftop solar energy system the MSEDCL buys the power that is generated during the day-time and pays for the same on yearly basis.”

The consumer meet was part of Union ministry of new and renewable energy’s Rooftop Solar Energy scheme Phase 2.

The officer pointed out that the consumer would be connected to the grid and the power generated during the day would be transferred to the grid. In the night the power from the grid would be consumed by the consumer.

At the end of every month the power supplied to the grid and the power consumed by the consumer would be calculated through the ‘net metering system’. At the end of the year if the consumer has consumed more power the would be asked to pay the difference and if the consumer has supplied more power to the grid, the company would settle the dues.

“Because the consumer is generating power during the day-time, it is his income and that results in lowering consumption of energy bill. Besides, this will also contribute in reduction of carbon emission – that will be a big help in environment conservation,” said Kumthekar.
