US-based sunshine solar tracker maker NEXTracker today said it will set up a manufacturing plant in India in next six months to push tracker-based solar power generation in the country.

NEXTracker, a Flex group company, manufactures sunshine trackers which enables solar panels and cells to absorb maximum heat and light. This enhances the efficiency of solar power generation by 15-20 per cent.

“We are in the process of setting up a tracker manufacturing facility in India particularly in Northern part of the country to start with,” NEXTracker Vice President Emerging Markets Nava Akkineni said on the sidelines of a conference here.

Akkineni also said, “The company has tied up for supplying equipments (trackers) and other consultancy for setting up one gigawatt of solar energy plants in India and aiming to achieve another gigawatt during 2017”.

Further, he said, “At present about 64 per cent of the material used in tracker has been localised. We have trained local manufacturers to provide equipment based on our standards. But we would like to set up our facilities which would be spread all over the country like it happens in construction material business.”

Akkineni also told that NEXTracker would seal deals with firms among India’s top 10 solar power producers for supply of equipment to aid one GW of capacities in few weeks.

India’s solar tracker market is expected to grow exponentially by 2021, amounting to 31 per cent of ground mounted projects, up from 7 per cent in 2016, the company said in a statement.

NEXTracker last year supplied India’s largest solar tracker project to date for 105 MW Adani Power Plant in Punjab.
