The Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology (ANERT) initiated the new project at Anappara Hills in Ramakkalmedu near Nedumkandam. However, the authorities stopped supervising it after 60 percent of the works were complete. It was
intended to produce 1 megawatt power and then 3 megawatt power from the project. Soon after the project was stopped halfway, the area was taken over by anti-socials.

They even destroyed the panels using stones and this was reported by Mathrubhumi News a few months ago. Meanwhile, the expensive solar panels were blown away in the wind.

Though the panels were brought back from the forest, they are piled up carelessly. The locals alleged that the solar panels were blown away in wind due to the unscientific construction. They said that over 50 panels had gone missing. However, the ANERT authorities said that these will be replaced with new panels.

A high level meeting was held via online to discuss the replacement of panels as soon as the insured amount is received. Ramakkalmedu is the only place in Kerala where simultaneous power production from wind and solar energy was initiated.
