Kerala Finance Minister announces 50 percent reduction in tax for electric vehicles

Thiruvananthapuram: Finance Minister Thomas Isaac declared a 50 percent concession in tax for electric vehicles as part of encouraging its wide use in the state.

The government has decided to encourage electric vehicles in order to reduce the pollution level by bringing down the number of vehicles that runs on fuel. Apart from Kerala, other states in the country are also mulling such a move.

The central government wants to bring 10 lakh electric cars to the road by 2025. Delhi government announced subsidies up to Rs 1.5 lakh depending on the price of the vehicle.

The cabinet approved the recommendation to grant tax reduction for electric vehicles for a period of 3 years last year. Various government departments also assured that charging stations for such vehicles will be set up across the country by KSEB.
