he Budget 2019 has turned out to be a major shot in the arm, not only for the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers but also for those who have been wanting to buy an electric four-wheeler. The government is aiming to develop India into a global EV manufacturing hub.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced the reduction of GST rate on EVs from 12 per cent to 5 per cent. Besides, the government will give an additional tax benefit of Rs 1.5 lakh on the interest paid on the loans taken for the purchase of the electric vehicles.

Moreover, the second phase of FAME India scheme, which has total budgetary support of Rs 10,000 crore, will also support 55,000 electric four-wheeler passenger cars. While the government is doing all it can to support electric vehicles and keeping in mind the rising petrol and diesel prices at the same time, here are the electric cars in India you can go for.

Tata Tigor EV

Tata Tigor EV XM is priced at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

The electric four-wheeler from Tata Motors is available in two variants — XM and XT. Tata Tigor EV comes with a 72 V 3-Phase AC induction motor that makes 30 hp and 105 Nm of peak torque. It is offered with a single speed, automatic transmission. The car gets a 16.2 kWh capacity battery and has a range of 142 kms. The vehicle comes with a standard warranty of three years or 1.25 lakh kms. The battery warranty is also for three years or 1.25 lakh kms. While Tigor EV XM is priced at Rs 9.99 lakh, Tigor EV XT costs Rs 10.09 lakh. Both the prices are ex-showroom and include TCS, DPCC incentive (in Delhi only) and government FAME incentive.

Mahindra eVerito

Mahindra eVerito has a starting price of Rs 9.86 lakh (ex-showroom).

The electric car from Mahindra & Mahindra is available in six variants — C2, C4, C6, D2, D4 and D6. Mahindra eVerito comes with a 3 Phase AC induction motor that delivers 42 hp and 91 Nm of torque. It is mated to a direct drive gearbox. The C2, C4 and C6 trims get a 13.91 kWh lithium-ion battery and have a range of 110 kms, while the D2, D4 and D6 variants make use of 18.55 kWh lithium-ion battery and have a range of 140 kms. The car gets a two year or 40,000 kms warranty, with the battery having a warranty of 3 years or 36,000 kms. Below are the price details of eVerito.

Mahindra e20 Plus comes with a similar 3-year and 60,000 km car and battery warranty.

Mahindra e20 Plus comes in three variants — P2, P4 and P6. The four-seater car is powered by a 3 Phase AC induction motor that produces 26 hp and 70 Nm of torque. It is offered with a direct drive gearbox. The P2 variant gets a 15 kWh lithium-ion battery with a range of 140 kms, while the P4 and P6 trims get an 11 kWh lithium-ion battery with a range of 110 kms. The electric four-wheeler comes with a similar 3-year and 60,000 km car and battery warranty. So far as the price of e20 Plus is concerned, it is available in the range of Rs 6 lakh and Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom).
