Ten days after the city’s largest rooftop solar power plant was installed at World Trade Centre (WTC), it recorded the highest units of electricity generation at 700 units on Monday. The plant installed at WTC’s Arcade building is set to be the city’s largest plant holding a highest capacity at 250 kWp (kilowatt peak), a rated capacity of the plant which is measured depending on the intensity of light. The solar power plant was designed and installed by Maxwell Solar and Wind Energy Private Limited on September16.

According to the officials of Maxwell Solar and Wind Energy, the plant has the capacity to generate three lakh units of electricity on an annual basis. An official from Maxwell Solar and Wind Energy said, “Since September 16, we recorded only 400 to 500 units of electricity on a daily basis due to heavy downpour in the past one week. However, we recorded the highest units of electricity generation on Monday.”The plant is spread over 25,000 square feet of roof area on the building. The installed plant has been set up under the net metering scheme of BEST (Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport).

Due to this, the drawing power from the grid would be reduced and the excess units of electricity generated would be exported to BEST.WTC Mumbai, Chairman Kamal Morarka said, “Solar power is attractive because it is abundant and offers a solution to the negative effects of fossil fuel emissions with the breakthrough for renewable energy development in the city.”
